🌍🍓 Happy Earth Day from Nash County Public Schools 🌿🎉 Superintendent Dr. Steve Ellis visited Southern Nash High School today to observe students in Lisandra Mejia's Sustainable Agriculture Production II class. Students demonstrated their skills during his visit by picking strawberries and converting them into homemade jam. Under the guidance of Ms. Mejia, students have embraced the full cycle of food production—from planting to harvesting to making homemade strawberry jam. Thanks to the North Carolina Go Outside Grant, NCPS students learn about agriculture and put their knowledge into practice by maintaining a year-round strawberry patch. These activities teach them about the food production through practice and application of principles and knowledge of 21st century agriculture through further exploration of renewable energy, precision agriculture, biotechnology, and breeding programs...Which impacts sustainable farming and helps prepare them for future roles in eco-friendly agricultural practices. This Earth Day, we're proud to showcase the hard work of our students. SNHS has one of the largest Ag Education programs in North Carolina. Let's keep pushing the boundaries of education and sustainability! #EarthDay #SustainableAgriculture #FutureFarmers #SouthernNashHigh #NCPSchools #NashCounty
