Nash County Public Schools will start on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, to ensure the safety of the road conditions. Due to recent weather forecasts and prioritizing the safety of our students, families, and staff, Nash County Public Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay on Wednesday, January 17. This decision follows the latest update from the National Weather Service in Raleigh. The forecast indicates the possibility of isolated, patchy ice on pavements tonight and tomorrow morning. Furthermore, they anticipate sub-freezing temperatures in the morning, potentially dropping as low as 23 degrees, with a wind chill factor of 12 to 15 degrees. Revised Schedule for January 17, 2024: - Traditional High School: 9:30 a.m. - Elementary School: 10:00 a.m. - Middle School: 10:30 a.m. - Tar River Academy and CITI High School: 11:00 a.m. - Nash-Rocky Mount Early College High School: 11:30 a.m. Breakfast will be available at schools. Students may be dropped off 40 minutes prior to the start of their school. If you ride the bus - please be on the lookout for transportation updates in the morning. Thank you for your understanding. The second forum is set for Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Edwards Middle School, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This gathering will address the prospective plans for families of Edwards Middle and Rocky Mount Middle School students. We strongly encourage the attendance of all families with current and future middle school students. In preparation for these meetings, we invite you to complete an anonymous survey available via the link below. The survey is designed to assist in organizing the community engagement forums related to the NCPS demerger. Its purpose is to gather questions beforehand, allowing leadership to address concerns during the forums effectively. These forums will focus on the reorganization plans for our district and are specifically for Nash County residents affected by the demerger. Please note that the survey will close on Sunday, January 28, 2024. Thank you, NCPS - Demerger Team Community Forums Survey Please click here, to access the community forums survey. The most recent federal data show that in the 2020-21 school year, at least 14.7 million students nationwide were chronically absent. This means that chronic absence has almost doubled from the more than 8 million students, pre-Covid-19, who were missing so many days of school that they were academically at risk. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences, and suspensions—can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school.
